The Best Horror Films You Need to Watch

With the recent release of IT terrifying audiences and breaking records at the box office, it got us here at Cheap TVs thinking about the best horror films you need to watch at least once (or, if you’re feeling brave, you can binge-watch a string of horror films too!). Horror isn’t everyone’s favourite genre, but there are some horror films you must see as they inflict true terror on audiences.
With the build-up to Halloween now upon us, it is the perfect time to list such films. Here are some horror films you need to add to your collection:

The Blair Witch Project (1999)

This 1999 film terrified audiences upon its release, and is to date one of the most successful independent films of all time, producing $250 million from a $60,000 budget. This documentary- style psychological horror tells the story of three student filmmakers who go out to film a documentary regarding the legend of the Blair Witch.
Following its release, there was an ongoing debate whether the film was based on a true story or not due to the film stating so, but this is the effect the film planned and it is still a horror classic today.

The Shining (1980)

It’s nearly impossible not to include a Stephen King classic on a horror list. One of Jack Nicholson’s most famous roles, this film has become a cult classic within the horror industry. The film centres around an aspiring writer who accepts a job as a caretaker in an isolated hotel, and the events that followed terrified audiences. This horror film is a must-see for anyone.

Paranormal Activity (2009)

Another independent horror film to achieve enormous success, Paranormal Activity fulfilled every aspect of what a horror film is meant to achieve. This is 90 minutes of intense supernatural terror, as it centres around a couple who are terrorised by a demon.
With its low budget, the film used a documentary style as audiences could do nothing but endure the relentless suspense. Anyone will struggle to sleep comfortably after watching this film.

The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist is without a doubt one of the scariest horror films of all time. Its remarkable special effects and incredibly eerie atmosphere could shock you to know it was made almost 45 years ago. This supernatural horror is an adaptation of the novel of the same name, and truly paralysed audiences with fear.
It follows the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl and her mother’s frantic attempt to bring her child back to normality, using an exorcism. The actress Linda Blair did such a fantastic job in her role, many thought she was possessed in real life.

There are so many more fantastic horror films within the industry, and it is impossible to fit them all on this list. Which is your favourite? Did we miss any films you thought deserved to be on this list?
