What Leads Do You Need To Enjoy Your New TV?

Buying yourself a brand new gadget, especially if it is a new television, can be an incredibly exciting time in your life. However, with technology dominating our lives, it can be tricky figuring out what things need to be connected to your TV and with what cables.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel! In order to enjoy your new TV, there are a couple of cables that you can use to watch films in fantastic quality or play games in a way that is fully immersive.

HDMI Cable

A High-Definition Multimedia Interface, most commonly known as a HDMI cable, is a cable that connects digital audio/video devices to each other so that the data can be transmitted between devices. So, if you wanted to play your Playstation 4 game on your new HD TV, then you would connect the two using a HDMI cable.

One reason as to why they are so popular is because, compared to the old-fashioned composite cables, they support both audio and video signals in one cable, as opposed to three. Also, the HDMI cable is a digital alternative to the composite cables and the VGA cable. The HDMI cable can support up to 1920×1200 HD video and 8 channel audio, meaning that is capable of supporting any HD film, programme or game that you are transmitting, so no quality is lost during transmission.

DVI Cable

A Digital Visual Interface, most commonly known as a DVI cable, is a cable that connects digital video devices to laptops and computer monitors; however, with technology developing, it can also be connected to DVD players, game consoles and TVs. It looks very similar to a VGA connector, but trust us… the DVI cable a lot better.

DVI cables can support up to 1920×1200 HD video, but if you have a dual-link DVI cable, then you can support up to 2560×1600 pixels. One issue with DVI cables is that some devices may include fewer pins because they are designed for lower resolution devices, so you need to be careful with this. However, if your port contains all the pins, then it can support the maximum resolution with no issues whatsoever.

DisplayPort Cable

This last type of cable is the newest type of digital cable on the market. It was designed to be the successor of DVI and VGA cables, as it is an updated video digital cable, but it hasn’t been adopted as frequently as HDMI or DVI cables. However, the latest lines of computers such as Lenovo, Dell, HP and Apple are DisplayPort-compatible.

In comparison, it is very similar to the HDMI cable, as it can support both video and audio in HD on the same cable. The DisplayPort cable can support a resolution of up to 1920×1080 HD video and 8 channel audio. However, because most computers and devices haven’t opted into using DisplayPort ports, you’ll most likely HAVE to use an adapter in order to connect your laptop to your new TV.
